2nd Weekend (Sun) - Vaals C1000 excursion

C1000 supermarket at Vaals (NL) The dutch town Vaals lies 5km away from Aachen. It is popular among here for the fish market on Tuesday AND the supermarket C1000 on Sunday. Maardag, Dinsdag, Woersdag 08.00-20.00 uur Donderdag, Vrijdag 08.00-21.00 uur Zaterdag 08.00-20.00 uur Zordag 10.00-18.00 uur Directions: Take bus 33 from Aachen, and get off at Vaals Busstation. Souvenirs from my Vaals Sunday-excursion Dutch vocabularies are urgently needed to conquer C1000:

• Potter's drop candy... OMG, I was trapped...
• Saksische Peper-paté
• Slavinken, vleesbereiding?!

I still don't quite understand how the dutch supermarket system works: they cashier doesn't give change (is this only for cents?!). Today I could pay for 1 cent less. :p

2nd Weekend (Sat) - Asian store

(left) A Cantonese acquaintance here showed me an Asian store; (right) Bought a bottle of wine (1.99€) and soy-sauce (1.39€).

1st Weekend - Room search

The bus stop for Kaufsland - the megamarket Task 1 - WG (= shared appartment) search, visited 3 WGs:

• Brabantstraße (290€ warm, 35 min to office, 3 FH designed students) result = FAIL i.e. given to someone else
• Moltkstraße (285€ warm OR 310€ warm, 30 min to office, 2 girls) result = NO RETURN
• ???straße (275€ warm + 80€ Essengeld, 30 min to office, 2 guys + 2 girls) result = SUCCESS i.e. I will move to here :D

Task 2 - Moving more stuff from Kaufsland to my empty room.

It often rains / snows in Aachen, but this place is beautiful if the sky is clear.

Day 3 - Starting my work

My new office, and my beloved dual-mon Day 1: Colleague J drove me to the office Day 2: Colleague J drove me to the office again: another colleague gave me the printed bus schedule Day 3: I went to work by bus alone, and the 1st ride took 1hr 30min Day 4: 2nd attempt, the length of the travel went down to the normal 50min; yet another colleague gave me the thick published transportation schedule of the region. So things are improving, huh?! The colleagues in the office sounded fun and friendly. A typical dialog would be like: S: Wo ist Ralf? (Where is Ralf?) T: Er ist im Stress. (He is in stress.)

Day 1 - Arrival in Aachen

The student dorm at Kastanienweg (On the left) 1st day - with borrowed air-bed from M. (on the right) 6th day - with internet and mattress. For the whole Feb, I will stay in this empty dorm room, which looks quite similar to the one in Tübingen. The 1 big luggage (24kg) + 1 small hand-carried luggage (10+kg) strategy worked out pretty well. The kitchen here is a little bit small and messy. This is shared with my neighbors - 2 German guys plus 2 Romanian girls.
